Understanding SIP Trunking

When it comes to current technology, most of us could care less what the newest acronyms stand for, or what they mean, especially when we have more important things to do, such as running a call center. However, At 3D Communications we understand you have a business to run and we want to help you focus on what you are good at.  At 3D Communications we are the experts in SIP trunking technology and can save you time, frustration, and even money, by handling all your telecommunication needs.

What is SIP Trunking?

SIP is an acronym that, if you care to know, stands for Session Initiation Protocol. It represents a technology gaining immense ground in the telecommunications industry. But what does it mean? Well, a SIP connection differs from your traditional phone connection from your PBX by using the internet, instead of analog phone lines, to transmit the signal. Generally, this technology is known as VoIP, but it goes a step further than VoIP. Standard VoIP connections will generally span within the building, giving the inter-office communications the technological benefits of VoIP communications, but as soon as that phone signal hits the PBX, it is translated back into an analog signal, where it goes through normal phone lines back into the telephone system. What SIP does is extends that VoIP capability to not only include your internal communications, but external as well. As soon as your signal hits the PBX, it continues as a digital signal through the telephone system to its destination, wherever that may be.

Benefits of SIP Trunking

The benefits to SIP trunking are numerous. First and foremost, your return on investment will be much greater, as SIP trunking often lowers considerably your telecommunications cost, no longer having to pay for a hard-line trunk to the ITSP. In addition, the SIP trunk is much more reliable and easy to maintain than traditional trunking from the PBX.

This is all not to mention that, if you are currently using VoIP without SIP trunking on your Hosted PBX, most of the benefits you could have received from your VoIP installation are lost, as VoIP communications are lost the moment you dial out of the office. SIP trunking preserves those benefits even outside of your corporate LAN. Such benefits go beyond simple voice communication, as SIP trunking with VoIP opens up the doors to a rich world of communication options, such as videoconferencing, whiteboarding, instant messaging, as well as numerous other possibilities otherwise impossible with a traditional trunk. Thus, aside from saving you money right now, SIP trunking can also immediately increase your company’s productivity, opening up doors of opportunity that, beforehand, were not only closed – they were nonexistent.

There are numerous other benefits of SIP trunking, which include, but are not limited to, bandwidth efficiency, scalability, and flexibility. In short, whether you’re just getting your corporate telephone network going, or already have something well-established, SIP trunking will not only save you time, but immense amounts of money now, and in the long run.

If you’re looking for a more efficient and cost-effective solution to your corporate communications needs, SIP trunking is bound to assist you in various ways. Let 3D Communictions help you take advantage of all the benefits of a SIP Trunk.
